Common questions

How do I handle a 40 chapter book?

Chapters and sub-chapters sit in a table of contents you can search, reorder, rename and collapse. Each chapter can carry a subtitle, and the current chapter's word, sentence, paragraph, vivid-word and reading-time counts sit along the bottom.

What are the focus modes?

Four. Zen hides the sidebar, menus and chrome. Typewriter keeps the active line centred. Vanishing Mode fades everything except the last lines so you stop re-reading. Bionic Reading bolds word-openings to speed up a revision pass.

Can NovelOS read my writing back to me?

Yes. Press play on a chapter and it is narrated in place, with each word highlighted as it is spoken and the page scrolling to follow. The voice is generated on your own machine, so no part of the manuscript is uploaded and it keeps working offline once the voice has downloaded. There are 28 voices in US and UK accents, and the speed is adjustable. Narration is English only at present. The same narration exports the finished book as MP3 or WAV from the publishing page.

Can I leave notes for myself or an editor?

Yes. Select any passage and attach a comment thread. Threads are dated, support replies, and are stored inside the project rather than a separate service.

Can characters and places be referenced inside the prose?

Type @ to mention a character, location or lore entry. Mentions are highlighted in the text, and the entry's Connections tab lists where it appears and at what word count.

Can I send it to an agent?

Export to DOCX, RTF, TXT, Markdown, EPUB, standalone HTML, digital PDF or print-ready CMYK PDF with bleed marks. Trim size, margins and export font are set in the project's layout settings.

Am I locked in?

No. Files are written to a folder you choose, and a .novelos archive packages the whole project, media included, for another machine. Nothing requires our servers.

Is it included in the $45?

Yes. The manuscript editor is the core of NovelOS, on Windows and macOS, with a 30-day refund.
