A round character is portrayed with multiple, sometimes contradictory qualities that create a sense of psychological and social depth.

Roundness comes from specific motives, relationships, habits, limits, and choices rather than from adding random quirks.
Original fiction example
A feared union leader is tender with injured workers, vain about newspaper coverage, and unwilling to admit when a strike harms the poorest families.
