Epiphany
An epiphany is a sudden recognition or insight that changes a character's understanding of an ordinary or previously misunderstood reality.
Epiphany in a story
The insight often gathers evidence already present rather than introducing a complete explanation from nowhere.
Original fiction example
Seeing her father's repaired shoes outside the pawnshop, Lina understands where the tuition money actually came from.

A useful revision question: Where does this device change what the reader understands, expects, or feels? If removing it leaves the passage unchanged, it may need a clearer function.

Insight becomes an arc only when later behavior shows what the character does with it.
