Stanza
A stanza is a grouped set of lines in a poem, separated visually or structurally from surrounding lines.
Stanza in a story
Stanzas can organize image, argument, time, speaker, rhythm, or turns in thought much as paragraphs organize prose.
Original fiction example
A character's prison poem gives each year one shrinking stanza until the final year contains a single name.
