## A relationship map reveals the pressure inside a cast

A cast list explains who exists. A relationship map explains why scenes between those people carry tension. Direction matters: admiration can be unreturned, loyalty can conceal resentment, and a secret can bind one character to another without the second person knowing.

Begin with characters who alter one another's choices. Give each connection a precise label. A debt, custody dispute, false identity, inherited duty, professional rivalry, or forbidden attraction gives the relationship dramatic work to perform.

NovelOS Studio develops this idea through Cast & World, Connections, character dossiers, genealogy, timelines, and manuscript mentions. The free mapper is useful for one network; NovelOS keeps the network attached to the whole evolving novel.

## How to use this tool

1. Add the important characters and optional story roles.
2. Connect two characters and describe the relationship from one side to the other.
3. Inspect the graph for isolated characters, overloaded hubs, and one-sided relationships.
4. Download the chart as a PNG to share, an SVG to edit, or JSON to keep the data.

## What the workspace includes

## Questions writers ask

What belongs on a character relationship map?

Include characters whose choices affect one another. Label the force between them, such as loyalty, rivalry, kinship, debt, attraction, suspicion, authority, or a shared secret.

Can a relationship be one-sided?

Yes. The mapper uses directional connections so one character can admire, fear, deceive, or protect another without the feeling being mutual.

Can I export the diagram?

Yes. Download a PNG to post or share, an SVG to edit in a drawing app, or JSON to keep the characters and relationships as data.

Is the relationship chart maker free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser. The chart is saved on your own device and nothing is uploaded.

Can I use it for original characters, fan fiction or a tabletop campaign?

Yes. Any cast works: original characters (OCs), a fan fiction ensemble, a tabletop party and its rivals, or the characters of a novel. Add each character, then draw and label the relationships between them.

Does this replace a character bible?

No. A map shows connections efficiently, while a character bible preserves goals, history, voice, appearance, psychology, and continuity details.
