* → **We don't track your writing.** No analytics on what you write or how you write.
* → **Optional AI features use your API keys.** We never see your prompts or responses.

## 1\. Our Philosophy

NovelOS is built on a simple principle: **your creative work belongs to you**. We designed our software to be local-first, meaning your manuscripts, characters, and world-building data live exclusively on your device. We can't read your work because we never receive it. 

## 2\. Data We Collect

### 2.1 Application Data (Local Only) 

All creative content you create in NovelOS—including manuscripts, characters, world-building notes, and project files—is stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers. 

### 2.2 Purchase Information 

When you purchase NovelOS, our payment processor (Stripe/Paddle) collects: 

* Email address
* Billing information
* Transaction details

We receive only your email address and purchase confirmation. We do not store credit card information. 

### 2.3 Website Analytics 

Our website uses privacy-focused analytics to understand traffic patterns: 

* Pages visited
* Referral sources
* General location (country/city level)
* Device type and browser

We do not use invasive tracking cookies or sell your data to third parties. 

## 3\. AI Features & Your API Keys 

NovelOS supports optional AI features (character generation, prose suggestions, etc.) using a "Bring Your Own Key" model: 

* You provide your own API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
* API requests go directly from your device to the AI provider
* We never see your prompts, responses, or API keys
* Your API keys are stored locally and encrypted on your device

## 4\. Data Sharing & Third Parties 

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except: 

* **Payment processors** (Stripe/Paddle) for transaction processing
* **Email service** (for license delivery and critical updates only)
* **Legal requirements** (if required by law)

## 5\. Data Security

Since your creative work never leaves your device, the security of your manuscripts is in your hands. We recommend: 

* Regular backups of your project files
* Using full-disk encryption on your device
* Keeping your operating system updated

You have the right to: 

* Request a copy of your personal data we hold
* Request deletion of your account and associated data
* Opt out of marketing communications
* Export your creative work at any time (it's already local!)
