## Protagonist in a story

The protagonist is often, but not necessarily, admirable, heroic, or the narrator. What matters is structural centrality and agency.

## Original fiction example

> A corrupt inspector remains the protagonist because his attempt to conceal one case drives every major decision and consequence.
