# A writing studio you own 

NovelOS Studio is a complete environment for writing a novel — ideation, characters, world, plot, manuscript, and export — that runs on your own machine and is bought once. 

## Who makes it

NovelOS Studio is built and supported by a small independent team led by Ribhararnus Pracutian. There is no outside investment behind it and no advertising business attached to it. The people who write the code are the people who answer [support email](/contact/), which keeps the feedback loop between a reported problem and a fix short. 

## How it is funded

The app costs $45 once and the licence does not expire. There is no subscription, no per-seat pricing, and no paid tier that unlocks features other users already have. Revenue comes entirely from people buying the app, which is the reason the product can be local-first: no part of the business depends on holding your data or keeping you logged in. Optional AI features run on an API key you supply and pay for directly, so there is no margin on your usage and no incentive to route your writing through anyone's servers. 

## What local-first means here

Your projects are files on your disk. The desktop app works with no internet connection, including narration and export, and your manuscripts are never uploaded for processing. Nothing is synced unless you export a project archive yourself. If NovelOS Studio disappeared tomorrow, the copy on your machine would keep running and your work would still open, which is the standard the product is held to rather than a marketing line. 

## What it runs on

Version 1.3.1 ships as a native desktop application for macOS and Windows, with a mobile companion installable from the browser on iOS and Android under the same licence. Finished work exports to EPUB, PDF, DOCX and plain formats you can hand to anyone, because a writing tool that traps a manuscript in its own format is not finished software.
